Training Website
Overview
Background
UTHealth decided to change EMRs from Athena to Epic. This required an implementation that would bring every clinic online to the new system on the same day.
Problem
We needed to develop a new training website because the older website would continue to exist during the transition phase.
Solution
The solution was to work with the web development team to create a new website.
Research and Planning
A committee was formed to create the new website. The committee consisted of three principal trainers and the director of training. We gathered examples of other training websites and evaluated their strengths and weaknesses. The previous training website was included in the evaluation.
The committee brainstormed and came up with a list of features that they wanted to include in the new website.
Design System and Initial Wireframing
I used the Universities colors and typography to develop a design system to keep consistecy with existing University products. Then I took the inital notes from the committee to create a wireframe.
Mockups
The wireframe was approved by the committee and I moved into designing higher fidelity mockups for the web development team. Between each iteration, user input was requested by showing screenshots of the mockup and evaluating the functionality displayed.
The web development team also worked with me to ensure that it met certain accessbility requirements for the University.
Conclusion
It took 2 months for the training website to be completed. The final website launched 3 months before the implementation began. The website served as a repository for documentation for the training team and was an integral part of the successful implementation.
